Get a job guaranteed!

Unemployed Professional with a Linkedin Profile?

There are several things that you must do on your linkedin profile to increase the probability that you will get a job.

#1. Live in the city where the job is that you want. If not, you must have hard-to-find skills that will cause the employer to relocate you (Computer skills/certs, foreign language ability, special hands-on ability, etc.)

#2 Linkedin Profile Appearance

#3 Use your list of Linkedin connections to find a job

Pull out from linkedin a list of all of the connections, that live in the city where you work and a list of all of them. For me out of 1,682 total, only 117 lived in the city where I want to work. So I either manually copy their info out of linkedin or use a data extraction tool. For me I copied them manually into an excel sheet, see below

Then every Friday (because all the postings for the week will be out there then), go to the website for each person and look for open jobs at their company. For the openings that I found and liked, I applied on the company website and then I entered them into a tracking database. You can use another excel sheet, but I used Tealhq.com (see below)

If they are places to put a referral name, you can reach out to the person that you know that works there to gain their permission to use them. Typically if you’re hired they get a bonus, so most people won’t say no.

By using reference name the recruiter will look at your application for a longer time and will look at other openings in the company, because everyone likes to help out a friend/co-worker.

Typically you have a better chance to get a job if you are a referral of an existing employee, the recruiter sees you as a “proven” good person. Plus you will be on their minds for unadvertised roles in the future.

My metrics here are 100 company websites examined, 20 jobs applied to and have I received 2 phone interviews, the first week. 3 Recruiter Phone interviews and 2 hiring manager interviews, the second week. I am only in the second week and have one onsite (team interview scheduled for the 3rd week).

I will continue to use this and not get complacent, because I am getting call backs/interviews.

Friends who have used this process, have all gotten jobs quickly, some after having been unemployed for a over a year and all using unsuccessful techniques.

UPDATE – In my fifth week, I had 3 interviews with 3 different companies, and picked the one with the best offer. A Fintech company company so I can build my expertise in the Financial Services Industry, because I want to build out the GetRich-GetWealthy portion of TheOasis.City
